The Workout
Cardio Routine
Fitness is a typical reference to training an individuals cardiovascular system. Statements like “Cardio exercises burn fat” and the reported benefits to ones heart, make these workouts the most popular form of workouts in the fitness industry. Aerobic exercise is confused with being synonymous with cardio fitness. Anaerobic exercise is often ignored or even forgotten when designing workouts that achieve these benefits. We fear injury, make excuses for our time, join gyms, read books, seek the advice of a physician before we do anything, and are more educated than ever on facts resulting from quality research. In fact, the most important part of movement is often forgotten. Having fun.
Luckily, our bodies, minds, and spirits are equipped with everything we need to accomplish total health. Regardless of the workout, if you inject a little fun, your body will crave the positive benefits the way it did when you were a kid. The fountain of youth begins with fun.

Strength
Strength typically refers to training a person’s ability to exert force on an object like lifting or moving from place to place. It is also interchangeably used to describe a person’s ability to increase their endurance during an activity. How do you know if you are strong? Common wisdom says to measure it by lifting something or moving something. However, we all have had the experience of being injured and immediately just feeling weaker physically. Does this mean that strong is the opposite of injured? Or frail? I think not. It does cause us to add the dimension of feeling to the strength equation and not just the objective measurements of either researchers or gym rats. So, can you just feel strong and be strong? Well, it is a great place to start...and a lot more fun than lifting weights.

Flexibility Routine
When discussing flexibility, we think of stretching and elastic, rubber band-like muscles that make us remember the way we could move as children. We envision leathery muscles moving with unrestricted freedom after a tortuous bout of relentless pulling. And like no other part of fitness training, we feel our age is the culprit for a lack of flexible movement. For many, stretching tight muscles is a far from fun necessity and for others, just plain torture. Fortunately for us, our muscles have friends. The joints they cross. A healthy and functional joint, will translate into a healthy and functional muscle. When we increase the range of motion of our joints, the feeling of flexibility returns. Finally, stretching will be fun.
